Barely four months after it organised an online matriculation for fresh students, the Osun State University again held a virtual convocation for 1946 graduates.
This is the first online convocation by a Nigerian public tertiary institution where 35 students graduated with a First class.
“For us as a university, it was as if we saw this current pandemic in a crystal ball. Serious effort in the last two years had gone into the development of our ICT infrastructure on all the campuses and this act of foresightedness had made it possible for the University to conduct the first ever virtual Uniosun 9th Convocation, the first of its kind among all the higher institutions in Nigeria.”
Speaking at the 9th convocation, the Governor of the State of Osun who is also the visitor to the school congratulated the graduands and urged them to look inward and put to use the entrepreneurial skills and competencies which the University has imbued in them to be job creators and employers of labour.
“I thanked the parents/guardians of the graduands for the huge investments in their children/wards and for donating them as assets to the world. I also commended the University management for forging ahead despite the challenges posed by COVID-19.
On behalf of the Government, management of UNIOSUN and the good people of Osun, I appreciate the Chancellor, Mrs Folorunsho Alakija for her kind donation of a world-class Teaching Hospital Complex to the institution. Her immense interest in our University is unparalleled and much appreciated.
Our resolve is to make UNIOSUN the preferred University of Excellence in research & human capacity building in Nigeria and the world over. We will continue to do all that is required to achieve this dream. We shall always support the University to ensure that it fulfils its vision and mandate,” the governor said.
