Sunday Igboho: Let justice prevail — Yoruba Council of Elders
Sunday Adeyemo aka Sunday Igboho

The Yoruba Council of Elders, YCE, has stated that if Sunday Adeyemo, also known as Sunday Igboho, has been detained, he should be given the right to defend himself.

The outburst followed reports that the popular Yoruba freedom warrior had been apprehended by security forces in Cotonou, West Africa.

Igboho was reportedly apprehended Monday night after fleeing Nigeria to avoid being apprehended by the country’s secret police.

While speaking with the media about Igboho’s alleged arrest, YCE Secretary-General Dr Kunle Olajide said: “For me, it has not been confirmed officially, and I am sure that the Department of State Security, DSS, would eventually confirm if it’s genuine.” And if that’s the case, they’ll have to follow the law to do an investigation.”

“He should be charged in a court of law and be given the opportunity to defend himself. There should be no cause for concern until we receive formal confirmation that he has been arrested.”

“However, I want to assure you that his detention will have no bearing on the Yoruba nation’s movement. If the protesters are sincere in their beliefs, it should not prevent them from attaining their goals, according to Olajide.
