Honourable Adeyemi Adewumi Irekandu representing Obokun constituency in Osun state has empowered his constituents, mostly young people through one of his initiatives named “Skills to Wealth Empowerment Programme”.

According to the information released from his media office, the people benefited from the distribution of empowerment tools such as sewing machines, hair dryers, aluminium cutting machines and many more.

While describing the implications of COVID-19 on the economy and lamenting the high poverty index in the nation, IREKANDU said he has a great passion for the growth and development of our teeming youths and women.

Youths and women who out of resiliency and strong determination have continuously contributed to the economy of our great nation through trade and technical works are no doubts genuine movers of our society, ‘ he added.

The lawmaker said he has a strong belief that if we all come together as a force to tackle poverty with a vision of enriching lives through people-oriented leadership, our society will become better.

Hon. IREKANDU disclosed that during his younger years, even as an undergraduate in the prestigious Federal University of Technology, Akure, he has always had great compassion and unwavering determination to end poverty through citizen empowerment.

With the increase in loss of jobs and widening of the colony of the unemployed, he greatly believes that setting up people to involve in technical works and the release of grants to small scale businesses will surely reduce the poverty index of every society.

Some of the materials distributed were Aluminum Cutting Machines, Grinding Machines, Sewing Machines, Hair Dryers, Generators, Farming Chemicals, Farming Equipment, as well as grants for small scale businesses, among others.

Speaking at the event, Hon IREKANDU said the empowerment programme was in fulfilment of his campaign promises to his constituents and to also show them, love, by assisting them during this COVID-19 period.

IREKANDU further explained that the initiated programmes are aimed at alleviating the sufferings of the people.

IREKANDU in his practical contributions to the resuscitation of the economy and uplifting of his people from extreme poverty said the distribution of the materials were part of his gesture to give back to the society and empower his constituents especially in this period of Covid-19.

He assured those who were yet to benefit from the gesture that he would soon roll out similar empowerment programmes for them in subsequent phases to come.

Speaking on the development, some of the beneficiaries who spoke to reporters applauded the initiative and described the project as a life-changing and saving one.

Dignitaries in attendance includes a chieftain of the people’s democratic party, Hon. Diran Odeyemi, Hon. Olaniran Akanfe Atitade and Hon. Babajide Kofoworola members of Osun state House of Assembly representing Ede South and Ede North respectively.
