The Chief Press Secretary to Governor Adegboyega Oyetola of the State of Osun, Ismail Omipidan, has described the claim by the State’s former Commissioner for Local and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Kolapo Alimi, that Governor Oyetola failed to nominate his predecessor for a ministerial slot as not only untrue, but also wicked, illogical, and mischievous.
Omipidan was responding to Alimi’s claim in a recent newspaper interview that when it came time to designate ministers two years ago, Oyetola allegedly sent three names sans Rauf Aregbesola’s name.
While addressing inquiries from media in Osogbo, Governor Oyetola’s spokesperson clarified that the Presidency or any other quarters had never asked his Principal to suggest someone for a cabinet position.
President Muhammadu Buhari picked his ministers, according to Omipidan, in keeping with his position that if state governors can appoint their commissioners, he should be able to choose who will work with him in the Federal Executive Council (FEC).
Omipidan described Alimi’s assertion as a giant lie from the bowels of hell, saying he was convinced everyone participating in the process at the time formed opinions about Alimi’s character and person, knowing full well he lied merely to destroy the name of a fine man (Oyetola).
Omipidan claimed that people like Alimi are attempting to create problems inside the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun by deliberately spreading false claims and lies in order to provoke acrimony and unneeded friction within the party.
“Ordinarily, one would have ignored the deliberate and wicked lie from Alimi, but one is compelled to react to put the record straight for the sake of posterity.
“First, if you all recall, it was public knowledge that President Buhari, said since he does not get involved in the appointment of commissioners in the various states, the governors would not dictate to him, who to appoint from their states.
“Two, on my honor, my boss was at no time contacted either by the Presidency or any other quarters to either suggest names or nominate ministers.
“ I will, therefore, implore Alimi to cross-check his facts well and stop lying shamelessly against my boss. He is just out to smear the name of a good man and create acrimony between my boss and his brother, our former Governor, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola. But Osun people know better,” Omipidan added.
